When building or renovating a house you always want to make choices for flooring that are classic and timeless. It is time consuming and expensive to replace or refinish floors so this decision is super important. One style that will be a FOREVER classic is honed checkerboard marble flooring. I say honed because I find the polished versions to be too cold/bank-like. Softer grey and white versions, or matte black and white can really make a statement without being “trendy”. I’m replacing the floors in Henry’s bathroom with this look- although someday I hope to have an entry or kitchen with these kinds of floors. Here are some of my favorites to inspire you!

Someone comment on my Instagram yesterday that they and their friends always argue about wearing white jeans after labor day. I am firmly in CAMP YES YOU CAN, certainly until it gets insanely cold/ snow is on the ground. If you live somewhere where it never gets super cold, I say white denim is a year round staple! If you can find some good bone/ off white denim- even better (although it’s hard to source!) But make sure the white denim you are wearing in the fall is THICK and not that lightweight/ stretchy thin denim- that WILL look bad during the colder months.

Despite the name, Hôtel de Caumont, this is not actually a hotel. It’s a chateau in Aix-en-Provence that has been painstakingly restored into an arts center and cafe (also a wedding venue, HOLY SMOKES CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE?) The interiors were done by Didier Benderli, and are so spectacular I had to share. Mark this place down on my bucket list of travels for sure.

I saw this D. Stanley Dixon designed Atlanta home in the most recent Veranda (one of the few amazing home magazines still standing, RIP Traditional Home) and absolutely loved interior designer Amy Morris’ use of texture and tone to create a totally interesting and complex design, with almost ZERO actual color. The other thing I adore is the juxtaposition of antique and modern pieces– a classic portrait painting and super sculptural modern table int he same room? YES PLEASE.
